Amazon.co.uk Review
Drukqs is the 2001 release from Cornish Techno wizard Richard D James aka the Aphex Twin. Deified in the sphere of experimental dance--partly for his indisputable sporadic genius, but partly, it must be said, for his bullish refusal to play the whole "releasing records" game, and the subsequent mythology that such contrariness invariably prompts--every new release is greeted like it's the future of music on plastic. Drukqs is not that album, at least not quite: a 30-track double CD set that runs to over 100 minutes in length, it reads like a hastily-compiled joy-ride through the old Aphex countryside, full-on acid junglist scorchers like "Vord Hosbn" barrelling madly past serene, oddly beautiful ambient piano curiosities like "Avril 14th" and sometimes the two disparate disciplines blending, as in the truly surreal wreckage of "Mt Saint Michel + St Michaels Mount". It's a minor disappointment when you realise there's nothing here as epochal as "Come To Daddy" or "Windowlicker", two late-period Aphex singles so startlingly revolutionary that, on their release, they sounded like nothing else on God's good earth. But once that's out the way, and you're free to immerse yourself in the tangled depths of Drukqs, it's simply a relief to know that Aphex is still making music: fiendishly complex, lovably dumb, and still aeons ahead of the legion of imitators.

Amazon.co.uk Review
Early word on the sixth album from Weezer--and their third self-titled record, although fans, sensibly, are referring to it as 'The Red Album'--is that this is their 'experimental' record. Luckily, Rivers Cuomo isn’t interested in penning his own jazz odyssey; for him, experimental is just finding cunning ways to nuance Weezer’s stock-in-trade--crunchy, candy-sweet guitars and vocal harmonies--with new pop tricks. The sardonic lyric of "Pork and Beans" hints at a new direction: "Timabaland knows the way to reach the top of the charts," Cuomo sings, "maybe if I work with him I can perfect the art". Actually, Timbaland’s not on board, but producer Jacknife Lee brings a variety of drum machines and electronics, and Weezer rise to the challenge with some generally inspired messing around. "The Greatest Man That Ever Lived (Variations on a Shaker Theme)" sees Cuomo adopt a gangsta rap slur over screaming sirens, while elsewhere, the other three Weezer members take a turn at the microphone. But it’s Cuomo’s songs that are the winners--notably "Heart Songs", a tribute to the songs that "never feel wrong" that swoops from melodic schmaltz to grunge scuzz with a deft invocation of Nirvana. Skip to the bonus tracks, meanwhile, for a great cover of "The Weight" that takes The Band’s original and drenches it in chundering guitars.

from Canada's Exclaim Magazine
The big things to consider are that of the four songs on Wizard of Ahhhs, not one of them resembles another and that Youngblood is showing signs of becoming a wordsmith along the lines of Morrissey."Hit the Heartbreaks" uses pseudo-prog guitar lines that lift the hair on your skin only to get your neck chicken-nodding to that relentless cowbell, while Youngblood sings the words "It's not me, it's you" like the relentless breaker-upper we'd all love to be.
"I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance with You" is a reverb-soaked new wavy pep rally that isn't far from the Go! Team leading cheers to turn the Cure's frown upside down, with Youngblood throwing in defeated lyrics about losing the girl to his jock nemeses at a local disco.
"Hurricane Jane" is the poignant one though, where he sensibly contemplates his loneliness ("It's Friday night and I ain't got nobody so what's the use of making the bed") over some hushed staccatoed guitar.
The finale, "I've Underestimated My Charm (Again)," closes things out by following more of a '60s pop format, evoking the observational wit of Mozzer dropping lines like: "They caught you in the park after dark, giving head to a statue, girl." Ooh.
